BBC News - Your pictures: Back to work

I am taking my weekly themes from the BBC Viewfinder Blog. These are the pictures they selected from last weeks submissions on the theme of Back to Work.

In our family, CHAOS stands for Christ's Hospital Amalgamation of Schools. 25 years ago, in 1985 the girls' school closed in Hertford and moved to join the boys' school in Horsham. This coincided with the completion of my O levels & the start of my A levels... I was 16, my sister a couple of years younger. This letter gave parents a preview of what was to come.... (not me personally, of course!)

The underlines were my mother's ;D

Chaos (1)

New theme starts here..... CHAOS..... "a state lacking order or predictability"

This one speaks for itself, I think! Although I think it was predictable when Monkey had a friend round to play!

Back to work (6)

This should be my final entry for back to work... but i've struggled for an image relevant to me or my family. I thought about something general - like a traffic jam or "rush hour" but that really doesn't exist in Turku! I tried to take some pictures yesterday but there just aren't that many cars ;D.

But my mind wandered along those lines and I've decided on this one....

It's from Midsummer this year. At the end of the biggest holiday weekend, families have been visiting around the country and everyone is heading home. The UK equivalent would be a Bank Holiday Monday when the roads are bumper-to-bumper. As you can see, things are a little quieter here....

Back to work (5)

As well as new shoes, work means shirts instead of T-shirts. On Friday, J ran out of clean shirts. Shame on me for not being a good wifey and realising this in advance - shame on him for leaving them on the bedroom floor instead of the laundry basket. Well, now they are washed and dried!

Back to Work (4)

really struggling with this one

trying to avoid turning this into an advert for my business but as the topic is "back to work" it's tough not to include some of what I do.

So, at the 11th hour (literally) I have given up trying to find something else. These are posters I've been working on to go onto notice boards - in supermarkets, neuvola, anywhere they might catch the eye of someone wanting to buy children's books in english....

I'm going for the top one, I think

Back to work (3)

This week I took delivery of 20 brand new, shiny Usborne catalogues. I love brand new books and there's something very comforting about stationery. I'm planning a big mailout to english language groups all over Finland but until they get labelled and wrapped, I have a pretty pile of shiny new catalogues....
